well, it's hilarious that this lil kid is being branded as surfer/cute boy/australian, it's just like they manufactured this song just to throw out the summer vibes. you put it best - sunkist/hollister rolled into one. and it all seems phony haha
but at the same time...it fills me with a longing to be like 15 and be doing that, as if it would actually happen
i have not been updating my blog with writing lately. this is sad, for me. i haven't been too inspired nor have i found any time to write. the fall/winter/spring is extremely slow and lonely for me, which is amazing for personal growth/reflection and consequently, writing/making music/creating things. i live in a resort town, ocean city, and come mid-may our beaches go from empty to absolutely crowded. every night is friday night. there are drunk men and women on every corner, though every bar leaves me depressed by the end of the night. the women are attractive and looking for a one-night stand, when pressed with anything beyond standard pick-ups they become uncomfortable and move to the next man. the men are shallow and looking to fuck, and make it known. the women love it. there is no such thing as 'alternative' here. there is plenty to do if you want to get drunk, but very little if you choose to be sober. i usually choose the former and fall prey to the hype of the endless vacation. i work 6 days a week on the beach patrol, and usually surf right after work, leaving me 2-3 hours to myself before sleeping. i also have 5 other roommates, so it is tough to ever be alone. every summer is bittersweet - i love my job, surfing, and the lifestyle that comes with being a beach bum, but i also become despondent due to a complete lack of interesting people. my roomies keep me grounded.
this took forever, but finally, here are some pics of the 'ghetto' mount method of hanging art. the upper left is titled "happy hamster ‘unwittingly’ leaving its hamster friend in a state of 'severe depression'" and the lower left is called "satanic hamster", "satanihamster" or just "sataniham". they are both by Tao Lin and i am honored to have them hanging in my room alongside art by my sister and friends.
two of my lady friends decided this was 'scary' and flipped it over while i was at work, with a nice note reading "just lookin out for your soul". <3 them. both photos taken with my iphone and they have turned out horribly. ah well.
saw toro y moi and caribou in dc last week, they 'killed it'. i got to meet chaz bundwick, the mastermind behind toro y moi. he is an extremely nice guy, modest, and mild-mannered (at least around a gushing 'bro' like me). you can stream the concert and read a short write-up here, by NPR. You can hear me screaming during the toro y moi set. sorta like 'WOOO. YAA.' The sound is disappointing on the NPR stream, feel like it sounds out of key, but it sounded pretty spot on via reverb and synthesizers during the concert. ah well. it was chaz's 8th time with a live band - he's shedded the macbook/synthesizer for real people, and it sounds super funky live. totally danceable. i was grooving. caribou was amazing as well - they put us [the crowd] into a dance trance with a lot of their layered rhythms and atmospheric sounds. great show. see this tour if you can - it was good enough to blog about.
